Imagine there's no cars...

That looks like a picture of no transit, no cars, or any sort of transport.

Things would be so nice if we could get along that way.

It also made me think, and as I often do I began to sleuth about, what would happen if all of our transportation needs where actually met with mass transit vs. the automobile? In other words, what would happen if the tables were flipped and 94% of all trips used transit and only 6% used the automobile?

How much would we honestly be saving, with best of breed transit versus the kind of crappy transit the US has now? How much would it cost to actually implement? At current prices it would make the Interstate Boondoggle look cheap. If the Government decided to make it a competitive interaction again, as the original railroads were built I imagine we'd get a solid discount, but it is unlikely and the Government would be more than happy to create another huge boondoggle...

...even though I admit, it would be a mighty great thing to experience!
