US Youth not in love with the car

In a major positive trend for ordinary people/a major crisis for the investing class, it seems that, even in our car-pushing social environment, younger residents of the United States are starting to vote with their feet against cars-first transportation.DeathbyCar

Some of this, I'm sure, is the urbanism-is-cool trend, but I can't help wondering whether the non-yuppie youths (the emerging suburban underclass) might also be falling out of love with the car. With the trend toward less gainful and more 'contingent' employment, there must be people in various age groups discovering that membership in the motoring public can be a real albatross.
